Arnold Howard discusses some of the things that can be done to avoid encouraging rust to form in a kiln including only firing greenware glass molds that are dry, venting the kiln lid or door 1/2" during the early phase of firing, and running an Orton downdraft vent with the kiln. Storing kilns inside an enclosed building such as a garage is also encouraged.
